Among them, Queen Barbora Radvilaite (Radziwill), Vytautas' mother Birute, Egle Queen of Serpents, Countess and Revolutionary fighter Emilija Pliateryte (Plater), and recent former two-term President Dalia Grybauskaite.
Clothing from pre-WW II days was both functional and beautiful, adorned with amber and woven neckties and sashes, all hand made.
People of Jewish origin in Lithuania are called Litvaks. Their history is rich in scholarship and achievement in many spheres worldwide from art to music to politics despite the horrors of WWII and its aftermath. Some famous Litvaks: Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Abba Eban, William Shatner, Pink to name a few.
